Virtual PC Creatures
This is my page on virtual pets and simulations and the like.
You'll find some you need to buy and also some
some amazing FREE ones. I grade them all on
the same criteria, then come up with a final
rating in "Hartz," with five "Hartz" being
the highest possible. Not included here (although
I'm very fond of them!) are the "self-contained"
kind, such as Tamagotchi and Furby.

Class 1: Web Page Adoptees
These are critters that are mostly just the *idea*
of having them. Usually somebody on the web makes
them, as .GIF files, and you email a request for
the right to put it on your own page.
Virtual Kitty/Puppy Adopt here.
Dragons. The most involved Class 1's, I'd say, are Dragons,
where prospective adopters submit stories about their characters
or applications. They form web rings revolving around their
charges, who may be patterned on Anne McCaffrey's beloved
Pernese dragons. Some "dragonmasters" send out a regular
update of the art, so that over a span of real-life weeks
or months, your dragon grows up. (I'm still looking for some
one to run such a service for Furcadia dragons!)

Class 2: Minor V-Pets
"Minor" V-Pets can run in little pop-up windows or run
about your desktop, etc.
"Parasites" (They just keep you company, sorta...)
Artificial Life
ScreenMates Kamikaze Kat & Deathwish Dog??
Deskmate Oska
Catz/Dogz/Oddballz
"Symbiotes" (They have some kind of tasks they perform.)
Mopy Fish/Virtual Tarantulas Global Beach
Postpet (Recommended)
BonziBuddy Parrot (Haven't seen it yet)
Class 3: Major V-Pets
"Major" V-Pets tend to be very "demanding", either
in the way of your attention, or that they are
"system hogs". They may require you to leave a CD
in the drive, or they may not run in anything but
full-screen mode. They may keel over if not
carefully cared-for.
